Under Three Years with Speech Problems

My nephew knows his ABC’s, but he has trouble with saying words. We think he has a speech problem, but the doctors said wait until he is 3. I want him started now on words. I teach, and I want to bring him into my classroom, but the other children have a hard time understanding him. Are there books out there that can get him started to speak better?

It sounds like your nephew is very young. A little too young perhaps to be worrying about him reading yet. If your nephew is having trouble speaking, it could because he’s having trouble hearing. As well has having the doctor check his speech, you may want to have him check his ears. I have many small children whose speech is difficult to understand because of chronic ear infections. When they are cleared up, most children’s speech often dramatically improves. Just a thought. Hope it helps.
