Healthcare costs are rising rapidly. Some people think a lot of it has to do with malpractice attorneys, and that may be true, but at the same time they could be rising because medical appliances and facilities are increasing rapidly in cost because our technology is getting so advanced. For instance, it costs quite a bit more to make an advanced surgical robot than it does to make a scalpel. Technology is rapidly making huge strides in medicine, but those huge strides do not come for nothing. We are all essentially paying a premium on healthcare for new technologies.

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009It is funny to me that so many movies and murder mysteries involve life insurance. For something that is kind of dull, and really frustrating to purchase (since you are buying something you can’t use until you are dead), it sure gets a lot of play in Hollywood. New movies are constantly coming out that involve someone killing someone to get the life insurance payments, or they fake their own death and then run away with their mystery husband or wife. In fact, Family Guy makes a joke about it in the episodes where Stewie kills Louis and then Stewie tries to take over the world. I don’t own life insurance yet, but when I do buy it I sure hope no one kills me to take the money.
