Simplicity’s Sake

When you design something, it is easy to overcomplicate it because you want it to be as neat and useful as possible. That is an admirable aspiration, but at the same time I do not need a toothbrush with a radio or timer. I would rather buy each separately then spend the extra money to get them combined. Also, when you try to expand your products, you sometimes lose a lot of clients because you were not sticking to what you do best, or your product becomes a commodity. For instance, Harley-Davidson Motorcycles tried to popularize its bikes even more by making them cheaper and producing more. Harley makes big, loud, and rare bikes, and by adding the cheaper product it lost a lot of its loyal customers and mystique.
